Public sector undertakings”PSUs” in India and their selection process

There are approximately 240 public sector undertakings[PSUs] under the union government ,These PSUs recruits through different  stages of exams like an interview, written, Group Discussions.

There are very popular PSUs in India like

  • Life insurance corporation [LIC]
  • Unit Trust of India
  • National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development [NABARD
  • Small Industries Development Bank of India [SIDBI]
  • Coal India Limited [CIL]
  • Oil India Limited [OIL]
  • National aluminum company [ NALCO]
  • Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited [ONGC]
  • Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited BHEL]
  • Mahanagar telephone Nigam Limited [MTNl and Etc

These PSUs Recruit management traines [MTs] in the lowest management or officer grade . Except for the LIC and GIC ,including its subsidiaries ,which take fresh graduates with no specific professional qualification ,almost all others ask for postgraduates in, say, Business Administration  like in MBA, Finance  like in CA,ICWA,CFA etc, Computers [ MCA ] or the Engineering disciplines ,particular to the organisation .

Group Discussions is the special feature in this organisation. After the written examination the shortlisted candidates are put to group discussion, theyWhere a debatable subject is put before a group of 5 to 8 candidates they are given 20 to 30 minutes for open discussions.Further , in some cases , an additional problem situation relating to management /production is given to the group to find out the best possible method of solving it.

The Govt of india has constituted various banking service recrutiment boards [BSRBs] .the BSRBs conduct periodic examinations for selection of officers and clerks in different public sector banks of india. Separate advertisement is made for recrutiment in junior management  Grade , Scale I [ Probationary officers ]of different banks at different times in a year. Beside these Nationalised Banks ,Some private sector Banks and Foreign Banks conduct examinations of their own .the eligibility conditions and selection  procedure in them are almost same .the difference being that the private sector banks and the foreign banks require specialised degrees like MBA,CA/CS/ICWA,MCA ETC.
